Microsoft have recently announced that they will be conducting an ‘Xbox Reset’ which will see several of their acquired studios over the year be completely restructured, shut down, or simply merged together, erasing the original from existence. This is all part of a cost saving measure following the aggressive acquisition tactics Xbox previously employed to try and get as many smaller studios as possible working under them to ‘build the Xbox brand’.
Among the most likely candidates for closure, or at least letting go from Xbox and being left to go full indie, are Ninja Theory, cruelly ironic considering they just recently announced a new Hellblade game during the Xbox showcase, and Double Fine, which would be an absolutely huge loss for such a creative company. We’ll wait and see how this truly pans out, but things are really looking grim for the studios that hopped on the Xbox bandwagon. I just wish the devs the best of luck in case the worst happens.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
