It seems as though Blizzard may have run out of ideas for Overwatch and are now handing over the reigns to the players. I’m kidding of course but Blizzard have recently made a huge update to Overwatch that may end up bringing the community back to the game.
Nicknamed ‘The Workshop’ this is a brand new system that is currently on the test servers. The idea behind it is fairly complex but essentially it’s a way for people to make their own custom game modes and share them with others using the Custom Games browser. Examples they gave included having no heroes being able to touch the ground as they would be set on fire or having a random Hero FFA that switches characters every minute. The possibilities are certainly endless and with the community in charge of all this new content you can be sure a lot of interesting stuff will be made.
Things have already started being made that impresses me such as a third person game-mode, Bastion being able to roll around in turret form and even turning Mei into Frozone from the Incredibles by having her go faster on her ice trails. It reminds me a lot of Halo’s forge mode but of course without the map editor however I say give it some time and that may end up happening down the line. This is a good sign for the game and I may very well check it out just to see all the things the community ends up making. This is a good step in the right direction Blizzard, keep it up!
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
