The Raytrace Revolution

Ravenholm never looked brighter…

If you aren’t aware of it Ray Tracing is a new lighting technique that can be utilised by extremely powerful PC’s that allow them to accurately simulate lighting and as such create a more realistic and striking visual style.

Recently the graphics card producer Nvidia created an official RTX overhaul for the original Portal that showed the capabilities of their new graphics cards and how older games can be enhanced by the addition of Ray Tracing. Now it seems modders have gotten their hands on the software used to do this known as RTX Remix and have started applying it to other games. These include Half Life 2, SWAT 4 and even Max Payne. You can really see the difference when these types of mods are included and for older games this is one of the best ways that you can improve their looks as long as you have a strong enough PC.

I will be interested in seeing how this develops forward and hope that perhaps it will become easier for those with less technical know-how to apply Ray Tracing to their favourite old games and see them in a (literal) new light. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
