It amazes me the speed at which technology seems to advance these days. What used to be a haven for the niche and beginner in Browser Games has now grown to the point that full, triple AAA produced titles from the past are now playable entirely within a browser. This time it’s Morrowind, and this excellent piece of techno-wizardry was done by a reddit user known as ‘Dumpster Buddy’.
Uniquely in these circumstances playing the game is not as simple as just loading it up and playing it, there’s actually one big roadblock that you need to get past, you need the original game files so that the system can point to them and use them to then play the game. Whether this is a technical reason or one involving Bethesda getting very antsy legal-wise I’m not sure, but regardless something like this does diminish the ability to just play it wherever quite a bit, though there is a quick, free example world to play in if you don’t have the files. Regardless, the fact that Morrowind is playable in any form in a browser of all things is astonishing, and I’m just so happy to see people have more opportunities to play this wonderful game.
