I have a soft spot for City of Heroes, the superhero driven MMO that was unfortunately shut down many years ago but was graciously revived by talented fans and kept up to date in the form of City of Heroes: Homecoming. Now it seems that things are a bit more official as people worried that all their hard work and characters would be gone if the original developers, NC Soft, decided to crack down on the usage of the fan revivals.
However, after many years of work, the developers of ther Homecoming servers have announced that they have confirmed with NC Soft that they won’t be putting them out of business anytime soon and as such the servers, and everyone’s characters, are safe for the time being. It’s lovely to see that the developers are still allowing clearly dedicated fans to play and even develop new content for a game they shut down years ago. I just wish more developers were willing to do the same, we can only hope.
