So if you never played it before, Yugioh: Duelist of the Roses was a PS2 title that saw the traditional card game of Yugioh be transformed into a tile-based chess-like strategy game, and weirdly enough, it was set during the real life War of the Roses between the English and the French, but replaced the original historical figures with characters from the anime, they certainly don’t make creative ideas like that nowadays.
It was an alright game, mostly because it was just so unique, but many people have been clamboring for a sequel that brought in more modern cards and updated graphics/gameplay. Well as it turns out, those fans are in luck, but this time it’s due to another very dedicated fan! Posted on Bluesky last week, Yugioh: The Third Rose has been released for free, and is actually a full playable sequel to the original game built from the ground up, that’s right, it’s not a mod or a emulation, it’s a completely new game that this person just made in their spare time for their own enjoyment.
This is, quite frankly, an insane undertaking, and it comes with all the bells and whistles a sequel should come with. While not every new card has a 3D model like in the original (Do you WANT this person to die from overworking!?) this is still an incredible achievement, and the fact they are just releasing it for free is absolutely astounding. If you’re even slightly interested in the original game, please check it out right here. You won’t regret it.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
