Blizzcon just happened and they announced quite the variety of new things they’re currently working on. What will be noteworthy and what will actually be good? Better see shall we?
First off is a project that will be in development for a while, just titled ‘Starcraft’. Rather than being an RTS though, seemingly it’s an open world shooter and it’s set to come out in 2030, so certainly a while off. Will it end up being cancelled like every other big Starcraft project that has ever tried to happen since 2? Guess we’ll have to wait and see. We then got some new Overwatch stuff, including a new character who’s a vampire, how cool, wish I knew what was going on in the story though.
Next was big, Diablo 5, set in a post-apocalypse after Diablo has successfully destroyed the world, interesting premise. It’s set to come out in 2029 so again a long way off, we’ll see what actually happens with the project. I just hope I get to play as a Necromancer again. Then, in a strange trend for Blizzard nowadays, they announced that an old game, Warcraft 3, was getting a new campaign and update for the remastered version of the game which will see you playing and fighting against even more undead. I do wonder how much they will rely in the future of updating stuff for the older games, even if I think it’s a good idea for now I wonder how much this trend will work in the future.
Finally, for something that’s actually coming soon in November, World of Warcraft: Forever. Essentially a return to the original game but adding content to it as if it never left its nostalgic roots it looks to make a big impact for those that loved vanilla but wanted to play new content that kept the original design work. Will it actually work, or will it just update to the newer stuff anyway like Classic did? It remains to be seen, but it at least comes out soon, so that’s good!
Anyway that’s everything. As you can tell most of these things are not really for me, though I do like the idea of Diablo 5. I just don’t have a lot of hope for projects announced years in advance, looking at you Elder Scrolls 6. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
