The current state of the gaming industry is rather bleak. Games are struggling to sell more if they don’t have a titanic budget to advertise themselves to the masses, lay-offs are common and almost expected the further up the corporate system the company seems to go and more and more games are struggling to be made and released without predatory microtransactions and other revenue generating sources.
It all shows an industry in decline, and it may even indicate that a crash is possible just like in the 80’s. Where are we on the current spiral downward? Who knows, but to my mind the most prominent stuff to enjoy in the current market is the stuff coming from Indie developers. When it comes to the AAA industry, their quality is certainly starting to slip. I hope that a crash doesn’t happen, but I certain;y wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
