With the Steam Summer Sale providing me the opportunity to try out games that I have been previously waiting for one of the biggest ones I wanted to jump into was Risk of Rain 2, a Roguelike Shooter that has received massive amounts of praise over the past few years but I never really understood exactly why it was praised so much.
After playing it for a while however I very much now see why. The game is strangely addictive in that “just one more go” mentality and has the capabilities to really ramp up in difficulty and fun as each run progresses. Not only that but with achievements being directly tied to new unlocks it incentivises people to take on unique challenges and helps you feel a constant sense of unlocking and achieving new things which is perfect for a Roguelike experience.
I must admit, I haven’t played a lot of Roguelike games recently but with enjoying this game so much I may consider getting back into the genre. I suppose it’s a good sign when a game helps revitalise your interest in an entire section of the industry, good job Risk of Rain 2!
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
