Competitive Club Penguin Bans

Yes, you read the title correct.

If you were asked to think of the greatest games ever to do a speed-run of what would come to mind? Super Mario 64? Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? Well recently a completely new and perplexing trend in the speed-running world has appeared, Club Penguin.

If you haven’t heard of it before Club Penguin is basically a browser based online chatroom where you can create a penguin avatar and chat with other penguins online, as well as play various minigames in order to get items. It’s owned by Disney now and is aimed specifically for children who are just getting into the scene of online gaming. With this focus on kid friendly gameplay however comes censorship, and thus perhaps the funniest form of speed-running was born. People are trying to speed-run the game by signing up, setting up a character, and getting banned from the game for cursing as fast as possible.

Watching some of these runs is quite frankly hilarious as some even use seperate browsers or even bots in order to type in details and glitch ways to start typing in the game as fast as possible, truly showing the dedication this community has to being the fastest speed-runner for Club Penguin possible. Currently (from what I can find) the fastest time from opening a browser to being banned is currently 38.970 seconds though it probably will be beaten shortly after I post this of course. Still, I will be keeping up with this scene, it’s absolutely amazing.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
