It’s Raining Warcraft

Hallelujah!

So just to get this out of the way, I’ve never played Warcraft 3. I know that’s essentially a sin in the strategy game community but I never really got around to the Blizzard classic. Now however there is a game coming that will allow me to give the old game a shot in a modern format.

A Year of Rain (interesting name by the way) is a strategy game that is entering Early Access in early November and is currently in a closed beta phase. I actually got an invite to the Beta so I have been trying it out and having a lot of fun with the game. As you can probably see from the screenshot above the game most certainly looks and also plays very similarly to Warcraft 3. That cartoon-esque visual style, smaller stategical battles and resource management by interacting directly with the environment alongside having several factions that all play differently help to strengthen the comparison.

Where this game differs however is the focus on 2v2 matches rather than solo affairs and a huge emphasis on upgrading hero units to use in battle. It almost has elements of modern MOBA’s within it which I’m sure will help it appeal to those who enjoy those types of games. Personally I’m just enjoying playing a classical style RTS that clearly has had a lot of love and care put into it. When the game comes out on Early Access you can bet that I will be playing it and it will even have a review. I just hope it can live up to the lofty expectations by being compared to a beloved classic game.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
