The Fromsoft Hype

All the light touches… is probably explorable

Over the past year I have completed the entirety of the Dark Souls series and I am close to finishing my first playthrough of Elden Ring, and I must say, I understand the love now. Beforehand I never touched a Fromsoft game as the punishing difficulty never really appealed to me but now that I’ve beaten most of their games it isn’t the difficulty that has people coming back, it’s the familiarity.

Each of the games made in these RPG series are played similarly enough that if you’ve played one then you know basically how the others work and can hit the ground running, yet they are distinct enough in their identities that they don’t feel like the same, rehashed game which is a rare feat. Being able to play a game and just know that you’re in for a good time while giving yourself that sense of comfort and familiarity is a nice feeling in an industry that is feeling more and more unpredictable in its quality. Hell, the fact that I decided to put down a new Bethesda RPG to play an older Fromsoft one is a testament to that. Are these games for everyone? Absolutely not, but I am happy to say that I am now a part of the niche audience that enjoys these games. Now to play Sekiro, and when they come to PC, Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne. I’ve got a lot of games to catch up on!

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
