The DLSS 5 Controversy

Hmm, not sure about this one chief

Nvidia are really doing their best to upset their customers aren’t they? Not only have they, and other AI focused companies, made it near impossible to get ahold of GPUs nowadays but now they’ve shown a new system implemented on their hardware that has left many on the internet filled with rage.

Specifically I’m talking about the new DLSS 5 system, seen above. This claims to be an AI focused system that automatically upgrades the visuals of any game it’s active on. However, what many noticed is that it actually changed the art style and design in many instances, causing something to look different enough where it doesn’t fit quite right. This is especially noticeable on one of the Resident Evil Requiem protagonists above, showing her becoming a more conventionally attractive lady that looks very different to the original.

Now this of course completely defeats the point of artistic integrity, and most importantly it shows that AI focused companies are fine with changing how a game looks as long as it looks better in screenshots. Many of the in-motion changes looked pretty terrible from the demonstration, so we’ll see how this really pans out. Personally, if stuff like this is why I can’t afford a new computer upgrade for a while now, it makes me sad at the state of the industry.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
