So, while being off, there was a couple of Nintendo Directs and they specifically talked about the Switch 2 and games coming to it. I’ll only be making dedicated posts to the games that particularly caught my interest over this next week, but for today, let’s just talk about the console itself.
As predicted by many from the initial reveal trailer, the console is more of an upgrade than a brand new system. It has a bigger screen, more powerful hardware, Mouse Controls and a couple additional small upgrades. The main big feature that was revealed was the introduction of a Discord-like chat system that let you voice chat and video chat with other consoles easily. Of course, we also got the release date, June 5th.
Now what wasn’t talked about, and something worth bringing up, is the price, $450 at minimum, which is an absurdly high price, and considering recent events it may even go higher than that. Alongside this, it seems as though Nintendo are aiming for the new standard game price at $80 with Switch games, a huge ask that many people were speculating would be introduced with GTA 6. It’s a lot of money, and people really aren’t happy with the price point, me included. It’s unknown if Nintendo will end up lowering the price at all, but I wouldn’t consider it likely. All I know is that Nintendo fans will still buy the console regardless, and with the exclusives they revealed you can be that is what Nintendo is relying upon. I guess we will just have to wait and see if this ends up taking off, or if this becomes another Wii U.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
