Project Helix

Presentation!

Microsoft have been rather tight-lipped about their next step in the console gaming market, however at the latest GDC Event they finally revealed more about their next hardware product currently under the title of ‘Project Helix’.

As you can imagine from being a new console generation this machine will have all the latest and greatest upgrades from the currently available computer parts, though notably with how bloated powerful PC parts are becoming due to the AI bubble this may lead to massive production issues, and they of course want to emphasis ray tracing and other such modern amenities as part of the new console’s big features.

The biggest feature, and a strange choice, is that it seems as though it will function similarly to how Valve’s Steam Machine will work as they claim this new console will be able to play both PC and Console games. I presume the idea is to unify the currently existing Xbox Game Pass as a way to unify their currently existing library and become more focused on producing software rather than hardware. It’s an interesting idea, but to be honest it’s in such early stages at current there’s no telling what may change as the new console comes into full development. Still, I’m intrigued to see what this may spell for the future of consoles as a whole. Maybe the PC/Console split will be a thing of the past, we’ll just have to wait and see.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
