Yet another game that has hit a brick wall and decided to give out on us, what a shame. If you aren’t familiar, Hytale was a project being designed by some of the biggest modders in the Minecraft scene, with backing by Riot Games of all people. The idea was the create an enhanced version of a Minecraft-like game with RPG mechanics, enchaned visuals, a full story campaign, enchanced modding support and so on. It was a very ambitious project, and as such, because the scope went way over what the devs could do with the budget they had, the project has now been cancelled.
This one isn’t as much of a surprise to me as Dreamsettler was, as this project has been in development for at least 7 years and with very little to show us in terms of actual gameplay. As such, I pretty much wrote this off as being a development hell project fairly quickly, and it seems as though the publisher agreed. The studio making the game, Hypixel Studios, is shutting down too and with the rumours coming down the grapevine it seems most of the issues here are being caused by incompetent management and mishandling of how funds should be used. No surprises there then, I guess we will just have to see what the devs working on this decide to go onto next. Hopefully something not so blocky.
