Once again, there are more big rounds of layoffs within the gaming industry in order to give the impression of continous growth, this time coming from Microsoft, who fired approximately 9000 people, about 4% of the work force. This all, while still reporting that their profits have been better than ever and that this ‘agility exercise’ was an effort to shift focus onto AI products.
This information is exclusively irritating because it keeps happening over and over, companies make big profits and then try to give the illusion of growth within the company and try to demonstrate continual profits by firing employees so that shareholders and investors will be more interested in this company that seemingly is doing constantly better all the time. I wish the best for the employees that have been let go, but I really hope this is something that can be addressed someday. Endless growth and profit is not real, it’s just something people will try to trick you over. Eventually, there will be a breaking point, and I worry for the future of the games industry once we hit that mark.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
