Sometimes a silly idea gets bigwigs excited, so much so that Sony have really started to try and capitalise on the AI craze by patenting a new ‘AI Ghost Mode’ which is essentially a system that allows a generative text model to assist you, or even play a part of a game for you, if you get stuck. If this sounds familiar, then that’s because something like this was added to a particular Mario game a few years ago with ‘Luigi Mode’, only this time Luigi would be actively talking with you.
Is this a silly idea? Absolutely. Is this essentially just replacing the scenario of giving your big brother the controller to get past the hard part? Yes. Will it turn up anywhere? I suppose we will have to wait and see. I personally am not prepared for the onslaught of AI powere big brothers, I wonder if there will be a way to make them say slurs…
