A Removal of the Original

Hmm… Not sure she’d be very happy about this

If you haven’t played the original System Shock 2 on Steam, you better try to do so now as it’s being removed from sale soon. This is due to the fact that the recent remaster of the original game has come out, and so many have stated that for modern systems there is no reason to play the older version.

There’s a conflict here however. The original game may not run well on modern systems, but it’s vastly cheaper, still available on other platforms like GoG and some people don’t have modern systems, but they want to play this excellent game. I can see the reasoning why you’d maybe delist the original, you want to ensure that your new product is focused on and is the best representation of your work, but still it feels wrong to remove it. There’s a reason why, despite there being a million different versions of the game, you can still purchase the original Skyrim on Steam. This poses a worrying trend for future remasters of games, and while you do get the original game for free if you purchase the remaster of System Shock 2, I don’t like that it is essentially holding the original game hostage behind a higher price tag. Let’s just hope this doesn’t become a standard trend in the future.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
