A Political Investment

Tying your image to murderers? Not sure about that…

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was not a game I planned to bring up almost two years after it was initially released but here we are. Ubisoft announced that the game would receive a new dlc which would bring the protagonist of the game to the Saudi controlled region of the middle east complete with new maps, missions and more. Shockingly, this would all be completely free DLC, something nobody was expecting. So what’s the catch? Simple, the real Saudi Arabian government is funding it.

A strange thing you may say, but the Saudi’s recently started up an organisation known as the ‘Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund’ which is seeking to fund various pieces of technology and culture throughout the world in order to better their image, and it seems as though Ubisoft have taken their cash no problem to develop this DLC. Now of course, this brings up the very valid question that surely this means the content being added to the game is influenced by the actual politics and policies of the Saudi Arabian government? Well Ubisoft say it isn’t, but come on. Many Ubisoft employees have made their discomfort at this deal know, and I’ll be interested to see what the fallout of this deal will end up being. Maybe the DLC will bring you to a perfect paradise where nothing goes wrong ever! It wouldn’t surprise me…

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
