Amazon recently announced a massive number of layoffs within the company, and especially within their game development division. This, of course, naturally would impact their currently only big released title, New World, as they have announced that they no longer will be producing content for the MMO, and will just be keeping the servers going through at least 2026. Past that, who knows.
The writing is on the wall then for this to become a dead game. It’s a shame as despite it not being the biggest of games it is still around and has an active playerbase, now there’s essentially no point in getting invested because it’s no question that the game’s servers won’t last for very long following this announcement. All this, all these layoffs and dead games, all because Amazon wants to focus more on AI stuff, brilliant, of course that’s the reason. Where this goes next? I suppose we will just hae to wait and see.
