It’s rare that I see a piece of media that is both intriguing as a lover of all things video game and an actually interesting thinkpiece that could be seen by those who don’t even care about the medium, and I’m glad to see that it’s being explored more and more as a concept.
The Remarkable Life of Ibelin is a new Netflix documentary that focuses on a young man known as Mats Steen, a guy from Norway that was born with a neurodegenerative disease that meant he was unable to do a lot physically in life and unfortunately died at the young age of 25. Sad story, and his parents believed that he died without having done much in life or knowing many people, however after finding his World of Warcraft account they found an entire second life he led as his character, Ibelin, and the many friends and even romantically interested partners he met on the game, showing he had a lot more to his life than originally physically appeared.
It’s an excellent idea for a documentary, and it’s been highly praised by critics and viewers alike. If you like to take my website catchphrase seriously, then this is perhaps a great watch to truly see what it’s like to live in a game, rather than just play it.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
