Longplays

Just one example of a channel that does this

I’ve recently been checking out and thinking about Longplay content. For those thta don’t know a Longplay is when someone records them playing a game from start to finish, usually without content, and uploaded in full without editing. The idea is that you essentially get to experience the full game without actually playing it yourself.

It’s an interesting idea for content, and in today’s age where people aren’t so sure about being able to afford every game they want to play these can be invaluable in providing the experience of seeing the game, including all the story elements, without having to fork out for it. On the other hand, Longplays do essentially ruin a game for people by making it seem pointless to actually play, you’ve already experienced it. Now to be clear, I don’t think doing Longplays are inherently bad or morally wrong, but I can certainly see why people might not wish to experience them for this reason.

Personally the reaosn why I like consuming Longplay content is as second monitor content, something to watch while I do other things and have nostalgic memories flood back into me as I usually drone out the finer details. It’s an interesting form of content, and I’d love to hear what you all think about it.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
