I’ve been a fan of insect-themed factions and characters in games for a while, but recently gained a new love for the swarms of bugs and bug-adjacent creatures thanks to the new Warframe, sparking my adoration for hordes of big insects that want to consume all.
It’s a fairly common trope in both sci-fi and fantasy, having a big race that is usually designated as a standard ‘bad guy’ action, but there’s so much nuance that can go into these themed groups. For example, Bug Fables, an RPG I absolutely adore, is entirely insect themed and that one has groups of noble bugs, villain bugs and so much more all based in a kingdom of insects, a great look into how such a theme can be explored. Alongside this, when I play Yugioh I sometimes like to play insect decks which have such a large variety of insect monsters that you can build a variety of ways to play them. All of this is also not to mention Pokemon of course, in which I would actually say Bug Type Pokemon are probably my favourite type as so many cool choices are present in the Buggy world that I even like to play themed teams with only Bug Types.
