Highguard… Launch?

It’s uhh… well it’s here!

Highguard was perhaps the most conflicted thing announced at last year’s Game Awards as it came out of nowhere, hyped up beyond belief, was given a very quick release period, and yet… it seemed rather generic. Another hero shooter in a market filled with them, and with it being free-to-play it also fought for space among the many different instances of this. Now, it’s here, and as expected, it’s not doing too hot. Sure the game itself is considered fine, but player numbers are not there, and many are already dropping the game due to the generic nature of it and the monetisation model which has put many players off.

It’s a damn shame as these are clearly talented devs, former creators of Titanfall and Apex Legends, but it seems as though all this development and effort will end up going to waste as, no matter how good the core game is, if a multiplayer free-to-play game doesn’t have the numbers then, well, it just won’t be sustainable. We’ll see how long Highguard lasts, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for it getting further than a few years.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
