I’ll fully admit, my PC is not close to the top of the line when compared to many gaming rigs of the modern day. It still uses a mid-range CPU and my monitors really need an upgrade. However, one of the biggest things that holds me back in this modern age is the fact I still occasionally use a Hard Drive rather than an SSD for storing and playing some games.
For those that maybe don’t know, SSD’s are just inherently better for load times and performance when playing games, with it being a night and day difference. For example, my Elden Ring was originally installed on my HDD and it took around 10 minutes to boot up. When I moved it to the SSD? That barely takes a minute. However, the reason why I bring this up is I feel as though modern game developers are designing their titles with the idea that you WILL be playing on an SSD, even though they are usually the far more expensive option.
One of the most obvious examples of this is Total War: Warhammer 3. That game is entirely unplayable on an HDD with the load times taking so long that you can’t begin a battle without it taking like 20 minutes. It’s a shame as like with a lot of modern technology it prices out those who can’t afford it and steers them towards a console experience rather than enjoying the opportunities that PC Gaming can provide.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you feel as though game developers should ensure HDD’s are taken into consideration when developing their games, or should people just get with the times? Let us know in the comments. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
