The Blueberries march to war

After announcing their newest project at the Game Awards last week CA employees recently did a dev discussion video in which they went a bit more into depth about what exactly would be coming with Total War: Warhammer 40K. They noted about how the 4 playable factions at the start, Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks and Aeldari would all play vastly differently and would in many ways focus on new gameplay styles. For example, whilst the Orks are a horde faction they differ from the Astra Militarum’s horde mentality as they play more like a traditional Total War guns faction whilst the Orks are much more Melee focused and their gameplay style centers around momentum and smashing into things to keep the Waagh going. They also talked about how different, smaller campaigns would affect a larger galaxy-wide map which seems like a massive scale for a Total War game. Perhaps this will rival even the full scale of the fantasy Immortal Empires map, but that remains to be seen at current. I’m cautiously optimistic about this title, and I will wait to see if it actually ends up being the true 40K experience mixed with Total War brilliance, or if this just ends up being a cash grab to take advantage of the more popular franchise.
