Here we are once more, more games, more awards, plenty to talk about. Hold onto your socks, let’s summarise!
First off with a lovely looking indie title called ‘The Free Shepherd’ which has you playing as sheep dog in a weird fantasy world and you must, well, herd sheep, who would have thought! It’s coming in 2027 and looks to be a cute game.
Next up was a weird looking game from Capcom known as Pragmata which looked like a mix between the shooter Vanquish and a little girl escorting simulator. Loads of hacking, shooting and weird monsters shown, and it’s out in April of next year, fans of Capcom shooters should definitely keep an eye on this.
Shockingly, the winner of the best indie game (of course it wasn’t a surprise) was Clair Obscure. Personally I’m not sure if this is in the spirit of Indie Games, but they technically count, so I guess no wonder they won. I personally thought Blue Prince should have won it, but such as it is.
Then we got a weird game, Bradley the Badger, some kind of mascot platformer that has you using in-game dev tools to play through various parodies of other games such as Bloodborne and The Last of Us, interesting looking title, will keep an eye on this.
For the main show, the first world debut game shown off was of course, a Star Wars game, and shockingly it’s called ‘Fate of the Old Republic’ which is, of course, a continuation of the Knights of the Old Republic RPG series. I have a friend of mine absolutely adores those games, so he will be rather chuffed!
Next up, the next game entry from Larian Studios, creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, and as predicted by many this is a new entry in the ‘Divinity’ series simply called ‘Divinity’. The trailer was certainly a gory affair, with plenty of Wicker Man vibes. Best watch out for this one, no doubt it will be good and huge.
Next of note, from Wizards of the Coast, a game known as ‘Warlock’ which is obviously based around D&D, though we don’t know much else. Seems to be a cool, evil wizard simulator, maybe it will have necromancy in it! I certainly hope it will. More info will be revealed next year, so let’s just wait and see for this one.
We then got the first gameplay reveal of the sequel to Control, known now as ‘Control Reonant’. As to be expected from this series of games it looks like an extremely trippy and strange looking game, just like the SCP experience I wanted from it! This title is set to release next year.
Of course we also got the previously rumoured reveal of the next Tomb Raider game with an actual fully grown Lara this time doing all her usual exploring shenanigans. This new game is ‘Tomb Raider: Catalyst’ and we don’t know much else about it currently aside from it seeming to be similar to the original titles, and alongside this, another Tomb Raider game, ‘Legacy of Atlantis’ which is a remake of the original coming next. Lara fans eating good these next couple years, hopefully these titles turn out good!
The next expansion for Diablo 4 was revealed, funnily enough through a giant demonic entity calling out the streamers watching the show. The new expansion, Lord of Hatred, will bring the Paladin class to the game and will see the heroes fighting against the demon Lord of Hell Mephisto, so plenty to get your hands dirty with! The expansion is planned to come out on April 28th next year.
Next, the long awaited big announcement for the next Total War game, as anticipated, it’s going to Warhammer 40K, which is huge being the first Sci-Fi Total War game, and we actually got gameplay showing it’s planning on being set between various planets at the same time on a grand strategy map. An interesting choice, and I’ll be very curious to see what factions end up on the game at launch.
Capcom announced a brand new Megaman game which appears to be going right back to the roots of the franchise, known as ‘Megaman Dual Override’. It’s coming in 2027 and fans of the retro series are sure to be happy with the direction this title is going, please at least be better than Mighty Number 9.
The last game revealed is a huge deal for movement-shooter fans, Highguard, a game developed by ex devs of the studio making Apex Legends and Titanfall, an interesting looking Fantasy/Shooter hybrid game with fully destructible environments, mounted combat and an interesting looking class-based system. I’m not sure if the mobility will match that of the previous titles, but if so, I could see this being a really enjoyable game. It’s also coming very soon, January 26th, so not long now until you can try it out!
Finally, as you can imagine, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won almost all of the awards it was nominated for, including the biggest award, Game of the Year, so well done to the team, well deserved.
Now, with all that done and accounted for, I remind you all that this does not cover absolutely everything announced at the event, just the stuff I found of interest, so be sure to check the full stream if you want to find out more. For me, it’s late now, so I’m going to bed. This lasted until 4am, my god, my poor body.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
