So here is a very interesting bit of internet culture for you all that I just found out about. Avali are an alien species which have elements of birds and reptiles in their biology that were originally created as as custom species from the game Spore, which if you didn’t know what an evolution-styled game that let you create and raise your own species.
What’s most interesting about these however is that they went on to become culturally famous amongst those who enjoy anthropomorphic species. It progressed from a niche Spore species created by someone to a mod for the game Stellaris in which they were given a full background, civilisation as well as many of the aspects that they are most well known for today. Nowadays they can be found as representations for people’s OCs, to avatars in games like VR Chat and loads more. It’s intriguing to see such a fictional species gain such popularity from something as humble as the Spore Creature Creator, but here we are! Just thought I’d share with you all the power that games have in defining culture for many people.
That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
