I have returned from my break to find that… Dial-up is being discontinued by AOL? Oh no!
To be fair, it’s estimated that it only exists for people in the low thousands, so it makes sense why this over 30 year old technology is being discontinued. If you are not an old person like me and don’t even know what this is Dial-Up was a form of connecting to the internet via phone-line and is an ancient technology by this point. I remember when my old childhood home had dial-up, boy that was a real pain when someone tried to take a phone call.
Regardless, it is sad in some way as many places still don’t have full access to internet and this was one of their only options. Still, hopefully this means more powerful infrastructure will be coming at a later point. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
