Gamescom 2021 – The Announcements

Well this is equally parts cute… and terrifying…

The Gamescom announcements have passed us by and there were certainly quite a few big showings this time. Again this will mostly just be the highlights that were particularly noteworthy to myself so if you want to see absolutely everything that was shown check out the stream archive right here.

The show started off strong with the reveal that Saints Row is being rebooted in some fashion with a brand new series of characters, a new setting and a strong vibe of Watch Dogs about it. Looks nice and will be interested to see more gameplay about it shown off. We then were shown the announcement from the XCOM team at FireAxis which is actually a Marvel game known as Midnight Suns. The game is apparently a strategy RPG and while it will share elements from the XCOM series will mostly focus more on the roleplaying elements. I for one am dissapointed that this isn’t the third game in the alien hunting series but regardless I’m sure some Marvel fans are excited.

A really cool game shown off was Cult of the Lamb which is being published by Devolver Digital so you know it’s gonna be a good one. It’s seemingly a hybrid between The Binding of Isaac, Don’t Starve and Happy Tree Friends and is easily the thing that has interested me the most out of all the announcements with it’s unique style and really cool and fluid looking gameplay. There was also gameplay shown off of the new Lego Star Wars game which looks straight out of the originals from back in the PS2 era which is sure to give fans of that series plenty to look forward to.

Finally they ended off the show with a big gameplay demo of the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding which plans to add in a whole bunch of new features and cut content that was previously missing from the game, perhaps this will give the game a second lease on life as I remember people being rather lukewarm to the original release. That’s all the announcements I cared to mention and like I said if you want to know absolutely everything then feel free to check out the stream link to see if there is anything big that caught your interest. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
