Shovelware

Good god... look at all this... garbage!
Good god… look at all this… garbage!

Recently I purchased a couple of Shovelware games as my girlfriend thought that they looked like fun. Most of them were knock-off party games like Guiness World Record stuff and Karaoke games but it got me thinking, what really classifies a Shovelware game?

Is it the throwaway potential of a game, the lack of replayability? Or is it simply the fact that almost no love and care was put into these games. There are many ways to categorise Shovelware games but almost all of them have one similar theme, they are bad games. Now don’t get me wrong, bad games can still be fun in a so-bad-it’s-good kind of way or a quick five minutes of fun in a party setting kind of way. However there are almost always far better alternatives available on the market and even if they might be slightly more expensive they are far, far better than anything Shovelware can offer.

So what do you think about Shovelware games? Do you think they have a place or do you think they shouldn’t exist? Feel free to share your feelings in the comments! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
