Playing as Yourself.

Is there a nerdy writer class available?

I find myself when given a character creation engine in an RPG most of the time creating something that looks and acts just like myself. I try to act noble and be brave and help others, but then I ask myself am I missing the point of an RPG?

RPG’s, by their very name, are role playing games, meaning that you should play as a character archetype and try experiencing the world from how you would perceive them to react to it. However for some reason I find incredible difficulty in that. I need some way to find myself personally connecting with a character, whether that be taking a single personality trait or a physical feature and defining it as myself in an extreme scenario.

It’s even happening in games that aren’t RPG’s like class based shooters. I’m picking characters not because I’m good as them but because I find myself relating to their playstyle or personality traits. Perhaps it’s just me that experiences this but I’d love to hear what your thoughts are on this. Do you also find yourself doing this? If so why do you do it? Be sure to comment and let’s solve this together! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not justĀ a game, It’s a Life.
