If you missed the first Xenonauts game I don’t really blame you. It was an indie developed tacical turn-based strategy game that borrowed very heavily from XCOM though of course adding it’s own flavors from the genre into the mix, mainly the fact that it was still a retro style game and had a lot deeper and more complex mechanics intertwined within it.
Well I mention this now as a kickstarter campaign just revealed itself for the sequel, Xenonauts 2. Supposedly it’s not actually a direct sequel to the original game in terms of the timeline but actually is an alternate retelling of the events from the first game. What this means exactly I’m not too sure however with plenty of cold war intrigue, hugely complex earth defence management (including the ability to manage your bases right down to the staff) and many other features I certainly hope this will get funded, we need more of these types of games. The turn-based strategy game aside from Fire Emblem is a slowly dying genre and we need to keep these games alive and well, I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
