The Mario Direct!

Apparently I can predict the future…

Fun fact for those of you that don’t know, I tend to write these posts a day in advance so as to ensure that I can keep up to date with news developments. Well funnily enough, this post was originally titled “The Mysterious Direct” and talked about the lack of an official first party Nintendo Direct and the rumoured Mario 3D game remaster collection, and look what dropped… apparently I can summon games at my command!

Yes Nintendo decided to finally show us some of the work that they have been doing this year in celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary. We firstly got the look at a Mario themed… Game and Watch? Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. It will include the original Super Mario Bros and a couple other classic G&W minigames with a Mario themed skin. It’s certainly an interesting thing but I’m sure it will eb a fun novelty for many! Next we got confirmation that the previously Wii U exclusive Super Mario 3D World is now coming to the Switch with some kind of Bowser themed expansion making seemingly any reason to own a Wii U being dead in the water, poor console.

Next up is a toy of all things, they call it “Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit” and it’s essentially a remote controlled car set that you pair with a piece of software to make your own kart tracks in real life and the game populates the space with an actual course. You then race the toy karts around the room against other players or computer only controlled racers. The concept seems really cool and is sure to be a big hit for kids at christmas, I just hope that the concept actually works. We also got confirmation that a strange Battle Royale-like Mario game called Super Mario 35 is coming exclusively to Switch Online users which will feature 35 players going through the original game at the same time while causing problems and getting power-ups from others. It sounds a lot like that free Mario battle royale game that was released on broswer and subsequently C&D’d a few years back so I guess we know why they did it.

And of course we come to the main announcements, firstly that Super Mario All-Stars which features the original 3 Mario platformer games and The Lost Levels will be coming to Switch online users and while this is great news I am sad that Super Mario World isn’t included, that’s a good game. Finally however we got confirmation of the big rumours that the main 3 big 3D Mario platformers; Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy are all being packaged as “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” and is coming to the Switch on September 18th, that’s actually only in a few weeks, I can’t believe it! Sadly it’s not a full remaster of each game and is essentially just a fancier port (and it’s missing Mario Galaxy 2 for some reason) but regardless it’s nice to see that the rumours were true and it’s even nicer now that you can play these on the go. Some of the best 3D platformers ever made is now playable on a portable device… what a time to be alive.

Anyway, that’s all the announcements they had! What are you most interested in? Share it with us in the comments! That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
