The Big Sue

Imitation truly is Westworld’s biggest strength

In what is perhaps one of the funniest pieces of irony in the gaming industry recently Bethesda Softworks, creators of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, are suing Warner Bros and their contracted game studio Behaviour Interactive for their release of a game adaptation of the TV show Westworld.

The company states hopw they believe the mobile game looks like “a complete rip-off” of their own mobile title Fallout Shelter. Now normally this would seem similar to the whole PUBG vs Fortnite legal battle where one company tries to take any competition down because it looks similar to their product and has no true legal backing behind it. However while I do agree that this game does indeed look like a rip-off the story goes further than that.

You see Behaviour Interactive also co-created the original Fallout Shelter and thus making the similar art style and gameplay incredibly suspect, The biggest thing however is the fact that Bethesda claims that code from their game is being directly used within the Westworld game and nowhere is this more obvious when you look at the gameplay and realise that a bug that was present in the original release of Fallout Shelter is also present in this game. Of course Bethesda will base their legal argument on a bug, it is one of their defining traits after all!

Anyway this whole legal dispute will most likely end in Bethesda’s victory so I look forward to seeing the aftermath of what happens between these two media giants. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
