Gameboy Dreams

Simple Beginnings

The Gameboy is thirty years old, good god I can’t believe so much time has passed. Nintendo hasn’t done too much to celebrate this event however another developer certainly has. Chris Maltby has created a brand new piece of software that will allow people to create their very own Gameboy games known as GB Studio.

The software works in a very simple manner. No programming knowledge is needed as you simply just create your own text, sprites and attach everything together in a turn-based RPG framework that comes with the program. This means that literally anyone can use this to make an RPG of their own design as long as they have image editing software. This marks a huge moment as if this was more well known about then we could have an entirely new generation of game makers who start out by simply using this tool. The ROM’s you create can even be used on emulators which allows anyone to play game that they have created. I look forward to seeing how much this software gets used and I am extremely excited to see what fans of GB studio can create in a few months. It’s funny how one of the oldest consoles is now going to get a lot more games available to it, and all for free too.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
