The Most Mysterious of Dungeons

Only really big Japanese fanatics will recognise this one

Mystery Dungeon games are an interesting genre of the rogue-like gaming sector. Put simply they are a series of games that feature many different franchises but all have very similar mechanics. You are dropped into a 2D grid dungeon and have to move square by square to find the stairs to the next part of the dungeon. You do this until you reach the end while along the way picking up items and fighting enemies.

The first kinds of this game actually started with the Dragon Quest series and eventually developed into branching off and integrating themselves with many different game series such as Final Fantasy and of course the most famous examples being the Pokemon games. I myself have only played the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games however I have played every single one (aside from Gates to Infinity) and loved every game. There’s something about having a more story-focused Pokemon game combined with the addictive, challengeing and incredibly fun mechanics of Mystery Dungeon games that make them an absolute joy to play, alongside of course their amazing music.

If you haven’t tried out one of these types of games I highly encourage giving them a go. Whether you try the original entries or attempt to try one that is tied into your favourite game franchise. Either way I’m sure there will be one that will tickle your fancy. That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
