The Comfort Game

Heeyah!

Are there games that you find yourself coming back to every so often just to chill out and enjoy an experience even though you’ve probably done so many times before? I feel this is a sentiment shared by a lot of people especially if nostalgia is calling you back to a simpler time. For me these games would probably be Skyrim, Oblivion and more recently Warframe. These games are ones I can just roleplay inside and forget about the outside world and I always end up coming back.

It’s a strange situation to many people looking from the outside. I’ve played the intro sequence to Skyrim so many times that I could word by word recount exactly what is said on the carriage ride down to Helgen and yet I still come back to play it. Is it because it’s a good game? Sure, but that’s only a part of it. I feel as though having an actual world to dive into is what makes these games so enticing to return to as you’re not just returning back to The Elder Scroll 5: Skyrim, you’re returning to Tamriel in the province of Skyrim and making your name in the land. These journeys help to define a character and as such jumping back into their shoes or even starting a brand new one can often feel like catching up with an old friend. I think I will keep doing so in the time before the big releases for the end of this year, it’s nice to feel comforted.

That’s all for now, and as always. It’s not just a game, It’s a Life.
