Something about video games can make you feel particularly empowered when it comes to gaining equipment. Sure in other mediums we can have artifacts of great significance or power described or shown to us and they can certainly impress us but gaming is the only medium that allows us to wield these mighty objects for ourselves and see their might in our own hands.
In many RPG games I like to find objects that are tied directly to the lore as they help me to roleplay and allow me to imagine my character even while outside of the game itself. However even when a game doesn’t have these types of items I like to create my own or imagine my skill-set being the legendary artifact of old itself. Sure this sometimes becomes a problem in MMO experiences where everyone is meant to be balanced but sometimes I just want to feel like an all powerful and important person within the world itself. I am very much a lore junkie and so integrating myself directly into the game space by using things spoken of in legends is just one of the many ways that I play games in my own specific manner.
