When we talk about the difference between ‘Retro’ and ‘Modern’ games we always seem to allow nostalgia to cloud our judgement when making the decision as to which era of gaming was better. Sure many people enjoy older games but sometimes it’s simply because of their memories of them.
What do I think about this? Well I mainly look to the shady business practices of the gaming industry today to see where I most enjoy my time. There are of course exceptions such as my most recently played game Octopath Traveller. This is a perfect example of a modern game done in a retro style that takes the best elements of both eras of gaming and combines them into a wonderful experience that both sides of the argument enjoy.
